Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man: Review: Amazing Fantasy
I love this new web series, pun intended. Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man is a hit. I love the new take on the classic superhero. As usual I don’t buy into a boy being bitten by a spider giving him superhuman abilities that, to scale is indicative of a super spider man child. But it always seems to work for Marvel comics. May, no longer Aunt May is super sexy and very well reimagined. Brilliant. Harry Osbourne is black and so is his father. Nico, a new best friend is quite interesting. Not Mary Jane Watson or Felecia Hardy. Pearl, a tall black girl is Peter’s crush who seems to not notice the fact that Peter likes her, ever since she used to babysit him.
Uncle Ben is still dead in this one and Peter attends a new high school while still managing to keep good grades and be Spider-Man at the same time. The ratio of whites to minorities in this version of New York seems to be 1-1. Amazing. We need more latinos though. Dr. Strange appears early on and so does Venom. It’s a great show but my one fault with it is that they try to do so much in the duration which spans almost 30 minutes. Can’t wait to see episode 2.
